There’s something so indulgent about a leisurely Sunday brunch. It’s an especially enjoyable and low key way to entertain out of town guests at the end of a long holiday weekend. It’s perfect right there on your patio or balcony-no long waits at restaurants straining to hear your party’s name called, or others jealously eyeing your table once you do get seated, as they wait for you to finish and vacate.
Here are some tips for a low labor brunch.
Frittatas are an impressive, yet easy to prepare dish. Got leftover grilled veggies or bits of sausage from yesterday’s barbecue? Mix them with some cheese and eggs, pour them into a baking dish and let your oven do the work while you’re savoring your cup of coffee.
Are you making some potato salad for the 4th? Boil some extra potatoes to fry with onions to make home fries. If you’re really feeling lazy, you can throw the potatoes into the frittata, too, for a hearty one dish meal.
Set up an electric griddle on your buffet, and let guests dip their own brioche, challah or French bread slices into an egg batter to make their own French toast. Use those luscious leftover berries as a topping, along with real maple syrup.
Pick up some buttery croissants at a local bakery (La Dijonaisse in Culver City, Rose Cafe in Venice or Normandie Bakery on Cochran at Jefferson are all good bets), or some bagels with smoked salmon and cream cheese.
Add a quickly mixed salad, and last- but certainly not least, Mimosas to sip, and you’ve got a fabulous feast to help you ease the transition back into the workweek.
