The High School basketball season is literally around the corner and players are getting ready for the season, during various things from conditioning to playing in fall leagues to working on their games. One of the last major showcase events to hit the San Francisco bay area, will be taking place this upcoming weekend as the Rivals Future 150 camp will be taking place at Contra Costa Community in San Pablo, October 24 through the 25.

“This camp is another way to help basketball prospects receive exposure,” said Tyrone Riley, a co-organizer of the event along with Glenn Graham, a former NBA scout with the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Golden State Warriors. “We want to give the kids a venue to display their skills.”

The camp runs Saturday from 2 pm to 8 pm and Sunday 10 am to 4 pm. It will feature various players from the classes of 2010 through 2013. This is the first year for the Future 150 camp in the Bay Area. This year, it started in June in Atlanta, Georgia, with 135 kids showing up for the event. Other regions of the country that this camp took place this year have included Birmingham, Alabama, Chicago, Illinois, Houston, Texas, and Memphis, Tennessee and many of the top players in the vairous regions in the Rivals rankings took part.

“The concept behind the Future 150 event was to help expose kids to a new basketball environment,” continued Riley. “We are focused on spotlighting some of the kids who may have been looked over. Sleepers or prospects that may need a little bit more exposure.”

Some of the kids committed to play in the Future 150 include Salesians Desmond Simmons a University of Washington commit, Sheldon’s High forwards, Darius Nelson and Ramon Eaton, Sacramento High guard Josiah Turner and forward Will Davis and St. Mary’s of Berkeley wings, Demetrius and Dominique Lee.

“Some of the top guys in the various regions we have gone to have come out and played in the Future 150 camps,” said Riley. “I expect the same here.”

Riley grew up in Oakland, California and played basketball at Castlemont High School. He then went on to play at Langston University in Oklahoma. He said the campers would see various drills and instruction at the camp, competitive games, and NBA combine type testing for all campers.

“The whole goal is to help kids used basketball to get an education,” continued Riley.

Sign-ups will take place on sitet at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Contra Costa College. For more information,  contact Tyrone Riley at 678-508-1055 or by e-mail at triley@allmetrosports.net .
