Monday, Nov.9 is the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. And what better why to celebrate than hearing some of a new translation of Günter Grass’s The Tin Drum by the noted Germanist Breon Mitchell? Along with Mitchell’s reading, there will be Haitian and Danish poetry and a little Sudanese fiction. This is all part of a book release party for the Center of the Art of Translation’s new publication, Wherever I Lie Is Your Bed.
It’s at the LIMN Gallery at 292 Townsend St., San Francisco. Right now they have a show of contemporary Chinese photography. So starting at 6, some food some wine, some art, some poetry, and some people who like to read and want to talk about it. Fun! The suggested donation is a mere $10. And if you want to hear more from Mitchell about his translation and the week he spent with Grass in Danzig, he will be the guest at the Center’s LIT&LUNCH on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 111 Minnna Gallery from 12:30 to 1:30. The cost? Free like the birds.
