Unfortunately, I'm not able to attend tonight's town hall meeting with Senators Sheldon Whitehouse and Jack Reed (I had surgery Tuesday), so I'm trying to follow it as closely as I can from home.  At 6pm, channel 10 news (WJAR) reported that the capacity of the room where the meeting will be held is just 175, and that approximately 100 people were not allowed inside.

Am I the only one who sees something wrong with this?  Why wasn't a larger venue chosen?  Almost any high school or college in the state would have an auditorium or gym with a larger seating capacity.  Why not choose one of those locations.  Of course, it could have been done intentionally to keep people out.  Second, it's funny how Jack Reed decided to attend this particular town hall meeting rather than hold his own.  It's a great way to approach meeting with constituents, since technically he can say he had a town hall meeting, even though he just walked into Sheldon Whitehouse's controlled environment.

Thanks to Jack Reed, that's one less opportunity to hear from a member of our congressional delegation, along with a tiny venue that excludes Rhode Islanders.  This probably doesn't bother them, but if it ever does, they can bask in the knowledge that they are more engaged with their constituents than Patrick Kennedy, who feels it is ok to ignore them completely.
