Times are tough and grocery shopping is something we obviously can’t afford to skip. More and more people are cooking at home, rather than going out to restaurants. We’ve become used to shopping at the few supermarket staples - Publix, Albertson’s, Winn-Dixie, and so on. However, now is the time to broaden our grocery horizons and scope out some cheaper establishments.
Enter Aldi. Aldi just opened on 436 in Casselberry. I had never heard of it, so I went in one day to pick up a couple things I needed for dinner that night. I got ranch dressing and something else which I can’t remember, but I was astounded at the total. It was two dollars. At Publix, the store brand ranch dressing is two dollars alone. I scoured the aisles for more deals and I was surprised to see that everything in the store was far cheaper than the supermarkets I’m used to going to. Frozen pizzas were four dollars, instead of six (and these babies were huge). Granola bars were a dollar, instead of four. Their milk is the cheapest I’ve come by, less than two dollars.
Everything at Aldi can be found in other supermarkets, but Aldi’s food is not brand name. However, it is at least half the price of other stores and it tastes exactly the same. Don’t be fooled by the misconception that a store brand pop-tart isn’t nearly as good as a real Pop-Tart. There’s absolutely no difference in the taste.
I spent fifty dollars in total when I went grocery shopping there. Two weeks before that, I spent 100 dollars at Publix, and that’s with literally ten coupons. I got the same amount of food, without using coupons, for half the price.
Do your wallet a favor and stop by Aldi next time you need to pick up some groceries. You’ll be astounded at how much you’ll be saving.
