Looking for a small, romantic, Mediterranean restaurant to try? Falafel Cafe offers all of these things and if you're looking for a Mediterranean meal at home, they have carry-out also.
Falafel Cafe is located directly across the street from the University of Central Florida and close to the Quadrangle business plaza, so the clientele ranges from twenty year olds to business people to small families. Carry-out is bustling all night, and the dining room is in action, but not full, thus creating that romantic aura.
I had the Holloumi ($7.50), which is a gyro stuffed with fried and buttered cheese. It's like a Mediterranean style grilled cheese, and it's huge. The Holloumi came with a cup of soup; I chose vegetable, but they also had lentil. The soup was very flavorful and I scarfed it down quickly. Besides the list of twelve gyros, Falafel Cafe also has kebabs, salads, plenty of vegetarian options, and a diverse meat selection including lamb, beef, chicken, and sausage. If you're looking to stay under the double digit price range, order from the sandwich or salad menu. For a more elaborate meal, check out the entrees.
I've never had anything quite like a Holloumi and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who loves cheese (and who doesn't?). There are so many different dishes to try, you'll want to visit Falafel Cafe again and again. Also, feel free to ask your server to explain the food you don't understand. They're extremely knowledgeable and helpful.
