Everyone craves Mexican food from time to time and when you get that hankering for south of the border taste, head on over to El Potro, which won’t take a huge dent out of your wallet.
El Potro is a typical Mexican restaurant, complete with bright knick-knacks adorning the walls and neon beer signs buzzing in the windows. The menu is one of the cheapest menus I’ve ever seen at an authentic Mexican watering hole before. There’s a vegetarian section of the menu and all of the dishes are under seven dollars. I had the vegetarian fajitas ($6.49). This entailed a hot plate covered with refried beans, cheese, sour cream, guacamole, salsa, onions, green peppers, lettuce, and tomato. Separate from that was a steaming dish of three wraps to load all of the ingredients into. I especially like when restaurants let you create your own meal by cooking all the food, and then allowing you to build your dinner.
El Potro also offers my favorite aspect of Mexican restaurants – free chips and salsa before your meal. The salsa was a bit watered down, but I’m not too picky when it comes to the texture of my salsa – as long as it tastes good. However, if you’re into a chunkier salsa, El Potro’s may leave you feeling a bit under whelmed.
Of course, one would expect margaritas at a Mexican restaurant and would prepare to pay around six dollars for one. However, at El Potro, they’re only about four dollars and they’re the same size as anywhere else.
So, if you’re feeling a bit saucy tonight, try El Potro for a real Mexican meal at a real affordable price.
