Every once in a while, everyone gets that hankering for Chinese food. And sometimes, you don’t want greasy take-out, but you also don’t want to pay a fortune at a sit-down restaurant. Well, it’s a good thing we have Eastern Pearl.
Eastern Pearl is hidden in a strip mall, but as soon as you see the distinguishing, dark wood doors, you’ll know you’ve come to the right place. The dining room looks like an upscale restaurant, with a fountain on the back wall, wine glasses, chinaware, and cloth napkins adorning the wooden tables, and a huge window that looks into the kitchen.
The dinner menu has the same prices as a dinner menu at a take-out Chinese restaurant, but Eastern Pearl’s dishes come with class and elegance. I got the vegetable lo-mein ($8.95), which was enough for two people. Surprisingly, I have never had lo-mein and I was delighted with my entree. The noodles were thick, the dish had just the right amount of vegetables so they didn’t overpower the noodles, and the sauce was the perfect combination of sweet and tangy. Our server was very polite and made sure we were enjoying our meal. He treated us like customers at an upscale restaurant, minus the exorbitant prices. Of course, we got our fortune cookies at the end of the meal.
Eastern Pearl will satisfy your craving for Chinese food, and you’ll get the added bonus of dining like an aristocrat, for commoner prices.
