Why does a wet dog smell worse than a dry dog?  The smell is somewhat "goaty" or high school boy's locker room-like.  Even when you use a pleasant smelling shampoo on your pup, he still has a strong odor.  What is causing that smell?

Dogs have glands that secrete oil onto their hairs. When wet, it gets extra stinky.

Tip: After bathing your dog, get him dry as soon as possible.

If your dog has an especially funky odor:

A bad smell can stem from a variety of causes. Especially the hound breeds, exude more coat oil than others, causing doggy odor. Bad odors may also have a medical cause such as mange, ear infections, or periodontal disease. Anal glands that need to be emptied also smell pretty funky, according to groomer, Kathy Salzberg.

Do you like that doggie smell?   Is your pup smelly?
