They came in filthy, matted, and malnourished from the North Carolina puppy mill. The Montgomery County Humane Society (MCHS) saved 15 dogs from a puppy mill in Wayne County, NC and several are now ready for adoption.
"When the dogs arrived, both staff and volunteers were ready for action," said B.J. Altschul, of MCHS.
The dogs currently at the MCHS are mostly small breeds - Yorkies, Poodles, Chihuahuas, Pomeranians, and Shih-Tzus. All have core vaccinations and all are microchipped.
"Eventhough, the dogs had come from a life of trauma and neglect, they warmed up quickly to human touch," Altschul told DC Dogs.
Some dogs had even outgrown their collars, which will leave scars. Altschul advises that the dogs need extra care due to the stress from their past.
The dogs are available for visits and applications.
