A dog awakened a Hampton, Virginia woman early Monday morning after a fire broke out in the home.  Three family members, including a one year old, had escaped the house when firefighters arrived.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire and rescued several cats, dogs, and pet birds from the home.

The home did not have any working smoke detectors.  Fire Marshal Anne-Marie Loughran confirmed that the dog had awakened the woman in the home.
