Billy Mays official autopsy report has been released. The Hillsborough County medical examiner's office stated that Billy Mays cocaine use contributed to his death.
It is important to remember that heart failure is the recorded cause of death with cocaine listed as a contributing factor.
The Hillsborough County spokeswoman Lori Hudson stated that nothing in the toxicology report indicated the frequency of Mays' cocaine use: it did not show he was a regular user.
Cocaine can stay in the system for several days and the toxicology report indicated Mays had used the drug recently but that he was not under the influence of the drug when he died.
Mays also had the pain medications, hydrocodone, oxycodone, and tramadol in his system as well as anti-anxiety drugs alprazolam and diazepam. All of the drugs were prescribed by Doctors (apparently for his hip problem) and none of the drugs levels were considered toxic.
So in the end, the examiner’s report proved what was originally reported: Mays suffered from hypertension and died of a heart attack. It also proved that he was taking three pain medications for his hip, two anti-anxiety drugs and that he had used cocaine recently.
