In Defense of Animals (IDA), a California-based international animal advocacy organization is providing encouragement to the local grass roots group protesting every home game of the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field. Sunday, November 1 is the next home game so come on out! This Sunday the protest starts at 11:00 a.m.

IDA organized a protest October 18 when the Eagles traveled to Oakland, California and played the Oakland Raiders. Now, thanks to communication efforts of Jennifer Rosen and Romy Nocera with Hope Bohanec (IDA's Grassroots Campaigns Director) IDA is encouraging it's members to participate in the anti-Vick protests in Philadelphia.

IDA is asking people to join them in requesting the NFL add dogfighting and cockfighting to the list of specific prohibited activities in it's Personal Conduct Policy.

"If dogfighting and cockfighting were on the list of criminal offenses in the NFL's Personal Conduct Policy when Michael Vick began his career perhaps he wouldn't have gotten involved with dogfighting."   ~Hope Bohanec, IDA Grassroots Campaigns Director

Why not join IDA and send a letter or fax (or make a phone call) to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell? Request he add dogfighting and cockfighting to the NFL's Personal Conduct Policy. Be sure to include the following points:

  1. Please include dogfighting and cockfighting in the criminal offense section of NFL's Personal Conduct Policy.
  2. NFL guidelines influence not only NFL players but provide standards for all levels including college and high school players.
  3. Because NFL players are role models for young, amateur athletes they should be held to a higher standard.
  4. Animal cruelty is shown to be the most consistent predictor of violence against humans.
  5. Ask the NFL to make all players aware that dogfighting and cockfighting will not be accepted by the NFL.

Send the letter to:
Mr. Roger Goodell, Commissioner
National Football League
280 Park Ave., 15th Floor
New York, NY 10017
Phone: 212-450-2000
Fax: 212-681-7599

And don't forget to come on out Sunday, November 1 to peacefully protest at Lincoln Financial Field at 11th and Pattison Streets. 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. rain or shine. For more information on the protest call Jennifer Rosen at 215-840-9723 or Romy Nocera at 215-720-4088.
