My son at Jakes Branch County Park

You are lucky.  Ocean County is chock full of fun places to take your kids, and a good number of them are completely free!  You have a huge selection of state and county parks, amusement parks, beaches, indoor play areas and much more!

Parks with playgrounds:

In Berkeley you have Berkeley Island County Park and Mill Creek County Park.

In Toms River- Cattus Island County Park, Castle Park

In Beachwood Borough- Jakes Branch County Park **  Jakes Branch is a brand new park featuring two different playgrounds, one geared toward ages 2-5 and the other 5 and up.  This park comes highly recommended among most Ocean County moms!

In Jackson- Patriots' Field Sports Complex

In Lacey Township- Eno's Pond County Park

In Lakewood- Ocean County Park and Shenandoah County Field Sports Complex

In Waretown- Wells Mills County Park

In Point Pleasant- Beaver Dam Creek County Park

In Stafford Township- A. Paul King County Park

In Tuckerton- "Tip" Seaman County Park

Directions can be found at www.co.ocean.nj.us/parks/default.htm

Indoor play options:

Insectropolis- the Bug Museum of New Jersey is located on Route 9 in Toms River and is open from 10am-3pm Tuesday through Saturday.  Admission is $7 per person, children 2 and under are free. www.insectropolis.com/

Playnation-an indoor play park that is great for rainy days.  Playnation is located on Route 9 in Bayville.  Regular admission is about $10 per child, however if you buy the Playnation T-shirt, your child is entitled to play every Thursday for free. www.playnation3.com

The Little Gym- other than the trial class, this option is a bit more pricey than the others, but is well worth it.  If you are interested visit www.thelittlegym.com/Pages/default.aspx  to schedule a trial visit and see if it would work for you.

The Ocean County Mall- You no longer have to drag your kids to the mall!  Now between stores you can bring them in to the play area right outside of JCPenney.

Amusement Parks:

Six Flags Great Adventure, Safari and Hurricane Harbor- You are well aware of this park unless you're new to the area or have been living under a rock.  It's free for kids 2 and under.  If you buy tickets online you can save $10 as well, kids under 54" are only $29.99.  The best deal is the season pass.  If you live close enough and have kids, the pass pays for itself in only 3 visits.  (The one park season pass is $99.00)

Breakwater Beach and Casino Pier- Formerly Water Works, the renovated Breakwater Beach has tickets as low as $12.95 for children 42" and under after 3 pm and $17.95 for above 42" after 3 pm.  (This isn't a bad deal especially if you are taking younger kids. We all know the attention span of a toddler; You won't likely want to spend all day there anyway!)

Of course there are also numerous beaches to choose from as well.  There are many more options outside of Ocean County as well, but if you are in a rut and looking for somewhere new to take the kids, here are some very good options!
