On Monday evening one local Sacramento area Blockbuster store is hosting a Modern Warfare video game tournament in celebration of the arrival of Modern Warfare 2. The game itself is set for release on Tuesday, November 10 at midnight, and upon completion of the event the winner of the Blockbuster tournament will receive their very own copy of the uber-anticipated game.

This tournament is only being conducted at one Blockbuster in the Sacramento area, the one located at Lyon Plaza on the corner of Fair Oaks and Monroe, and the competition officially kicks off at 9:00pm. Those interested in taking part in the fun and looking to score the grand prize should consider arriving early to ensure registration.

Since Modern Warfare 2 will only be available for play after midnight due to contractual obligations, the 9:00pm start time requires the tournament to be for the first game in the series, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. While there is little doubt that many players would like a pre-release glimpse of the new game, veterans of CoD 4 will probably take delight in competing in a game that they are more familiar with.

This is a modest Pay tournament, requiring a $5 buy-in. Consumers who purchased a pre-order copy of Modern Warfare 2 through the Fair Oaks Blockbuster outlet are also being entered.

The rules are pretty simple and no experience is required to enter. Here’s a quick rundown, please note that these are subject to change and should be confirmed with Blockbuster representatives on the night of the tourney.

Player Options:

Unlimited Lives on a 5 minute clock. Player with the highest score wins.
Head to Head, no Clan matches
No respawn delay
Max Health is set to Normal
No health regeneration
Kill cam is enabled
Sprint is enabled

Gameplay Options:

Headshots Only is disabled
Perks are enabled
Air Support is disabled
Hardcore is disabled

Killhouse
Bog
Crash
Backlot

Players will be able to choose from 10 pre-made weapon classes at the beginning of each match only. Check Blockbuster for more details.
