PEGI, or Pan European Game Information, might have leaked information about an European release of Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker for the Virtual Console. The game was originally released on the Sega Genesis, and it might soon be available on the Wii, at least in Europe.
The game’s rating, which is 12+, can be seen here. It features one descriptor: violence. In the game, you play as Michael Jackson (naturally) as you you use music and dance moves to saved kidnapped children from the evil Mr. Big. It features songs like Beat It, Bad and Smooth Criminal.
The game was published by Sega, and it is not the only Sega game to feature Jackson. Jackson was also in Space Channel 5 Part 2 and Ready 2 Rumble Boxing Round 2.
The game would be notable, as it would only be the fourth licensed game released on the Virtual Console. The first three made up the Super Star Wars Trilogy, but the difference there is LucasArts owns the rights to both the Star Wars movies and video games.
A release in Europe does not necessarily mean the game would be released in North America. Two Wii specific examples of this are Nintendo’s Disaster: Day of Crisis and Another Code: R. Both have been released in Europe, but not North America.
A rating is not indicative of a release. The ESRB has rated several Virtual Console games that have yet to see a release, including Earthbound, Pilotwings, Pro Wrestling and Duck Hunt, among others.
