Health insurance for all Portland teens
Portland teens and children will now all qualify for the
Oregon Health Plan regardless of their parents' eligibility or ability to pay.
Oregon, according to
The Oregonian, is one of 11 states to offer
universal health care to its young residents. Governor Ted Kulongoski signed a bill today that will provide coverage for 80,000 children and teens.
The Oregonian reports:
"By insuring all kids, Oregon should see better health outcomes for its children, including improvements in vaccination rates, dental decay, asthma management and early detection of autism and other developmental issues." The hope is to have up to 98% of all Oregon teens and children insured within the next two years.
