Yo Yo's is a little cafe that serves fast, cheap Japanese food to hungry lunch goers in the Financial District. A very popular lunchtime spot to grab a quick meal to go, there is frequently a line outside the door but the couple that own the place run it like a well-oiled machine, serving dozens of people everyday without a hiccup. I used to frequent this place at least a couple times a week when I worked around the corner.
They serve udon and soba noodles, sushi that's pre-packed in little containers, chicken teriyaki over rice, and different types of salad, like seafood and seaweed. The noodles are my personal favorite, which is served with seaweed, tofu, tempura balls, fish cake, and your choice of soba or udon. It's a simple, tasty meal but it's also very cheap! A full sized order is only $5.50, which comes served in a quart-sized container. It's a lot of food so I would usually opt for the half-order which is only $2.25!
All their other items are just as cheap, too. An order of 6 California rolls or other assorted sushi is only $2.45. The seaweed salad is always a good addition to your meal, especially because it's only $1.75 for a small container. You really have to try to spend more than $5 for a complete meal here!
Though the food isn't the highest quality Japanese you can find, particularly the sushi, it doesn't advertise it as anything more than a friendly family-owned counter shop that serves fast and cheap Japanese food. They do what they do very well! It's a small shop with just a counter and a refridgerator with cold drinks, so there's nowhere to sit. If you work in the Financial District, definitely make this a regular lunchtime stop!
You can find Yo Yo's at 318 Pacific Ave between Battery St and Sansome St, look for the green overhang and line of hungry people around lunctime.
