Da Beef is a hot dog cart that was opened in 2008 by two ladies from Chicago who wanted to bring authentic Chicago style hot dogs and Italian beef sandwiches to San Francisco. They are located on the corner of 7th St. and Folsom in SOMA, in Oil Can Henry's parking lot.

They offer different types of hot dogs and sausages, as well as an authentic Italian beef sandwich with giardiniera cheese, but the star is defintely the Chicago style Vienna beef hot dog.

A Chicago style hot dog consists of:

  • Steamed Vienna beef hot dog
  • Steamed poppy seed bun
  • Pickle spear
  • Yellow mustard
  • Green relish
  • Quarted tomatoes
  • Diced onions
  • Jalapeño sport peppers
  • Celery salt

The Chicago style hot dog is only $4. They also have chili dogs, hot links, and polish sausages for $5. The Italian beef is $7. For only $1 more you can get a bag of chips and a drink. They even have a happy hour special from 4:00-5:00pm where you can take $1 off your order or any sandwich, making it even cheaper than it already is!

July Special: To celebrate National Hot Dog Month, Da Beef is offering a $5 special which gets you a hot dog, chips, and a drink. They also moved their cart just down the street to accomodate for construction around their original location. They are now at Folsom and Langton.

Da Beef is open Monday-Friday from 11:00am-5:00pm. There is a bench to enjoy your meal, but just plan on stopping by and grabbing it to go, since there are no tables.

Hot dog carts are always great cheap eats options, and Da Beef gives San Francisco a taste of Chicago without the expensive airfare.
