Friends and family leave handwritten notes in front of Otto's market

Memorial services will be held Friday evening for beloved Burbank shop owner Otto Huber, who passed away on October 8th at the age of 77. Friends, patrons, and all whom he touched throughout the community are invited to join his family at Forest Lawn – Hollywood Hills at 7:00 p.m., where a vigil will be held at the Old North Church.

Old North Church is located at 6300 Forest Lawn Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90068. Burbank residents can access Forest Lawn Drive from Barham Blvd. on the west side of Burbank, Victory Blvd./Riverside Drive/Zoo Drive on the east, or from the 134 Freeway.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 17th, at 11:00 a.m., beginning with a mass at Saint Finbar Church, located at 2010 West Olive Avenue. A procession and burial will follow.

Huber owned and operated Otto’s Import Store & Delicatessen on Clark Avenue for over 40 years. In addition to being one of the last remaining family-run corner markets in the city, he also founded a successful internet business in 1993, offering more than 3,000 imported Hungarian and European products to anyone with an internet connection.

Shortly after his passing, Otto’s family placed posterboards and pens in the market's storefront windows. Residents have since filled the blank space with messages of friendship and thanks. A child’s handwriting states innocently “I loved your candy,” a teen writes “You were super chill and funny too,” while others left heartfelt notes, such as “Papa, we will miss you a lot,” and “[You are] in our thoughts forever.”

Though his presence will be missed at the landmark corner market, Otto’s son Thomas has promised that the family will reopen the store soon, and carry on his father’s legacy.
