Monogamy is quite the topic
Ah, the magic 'm' word.
Not marriage. Monogamy.
My previous article 'Is monogamy realistic' created a swirl of discussion in my own, small world. And, as I began to pursue what I thought was a rather mundane topi c that few people would ponder. Wow. Was I surprised.
An Internet search of the subject opened my eyes to the extensive coverage the concept has been given. From celebrities like Bill Maher, Kate Hudson, and Clare Danes, to a vast assortment of academics, casual discussion groups, or religious leaders, people are raising the question of whether or not monogamy is possible, necessary, or even a worthy goal in our society.
I've been involved in philosophical debates, mostly in college, and have found the exercise exhausting. Maybe that's why I never went to law school. While I like a passionate discussion as much as the next one, I have never seen any among my friends and family that end with a hug. Usually only silence. Cold stares. And the occasional 'humph.'
So, for those of you who might have found my article buried under the plethora of more or less scholarly articles, I leave you with this idea:
We should all be willing to practice what Nobel Prize-winner Konrad Lorenz is supposed to have recommended: 'Discard at least one cherished notion every day before breakfast.' Now, discuss among yourselves. Or, email me your comments,

The list is endless.
