Original recall of beef expanded

There have been reports on the Internet this morning of an expanded recall by a Colorado beef company of beef products possibly contaminated with Ecoli. The initial recall consisted of some 42,000 pounds of beef, but the recall has been expanded this morning to include some 380,000 pounds of additional beef products.

USDA Food and Safety and Inspection Service issued a written statement saying “The recall came as a result of an ongoing investigation into 24 illnesses in multiple states, of which at least 18 appear to be associated“. USDA Spokesperson, Brian Mabry said “No fatalities have been reported”.

If you feel you have any of the suspected meat products, USDA urges consumers to contact the retailer where the beef was purchased to find out that particular lot of beef was included in the expanded recall. To find out more about the products being recalled you can find specific information here: www.USDA.gov.

JBS Swift spokesperson, Chandler Keys said “His Company’s products may have nothing to do with the outbreak”. “But it is important for customers to note that the recalled product from the date in question was sold by the JBS Swift as whole muscle cuts, not as ground beef,” “The ground beef that might have been associated with the illness was produced by other companies who often do not use the antimicrobial intervention steps we employ in our facility to reduce the risk of the beef products.
