As much as you would like to stop hearing about Danny Briere's in-and-out of the lineup drama, so would he.
He expressed as much on Monday at the Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees, after skating with the team for the second time since he exited Thursday's game in the second period.
“I can’t wait for the day I don’t even have to worry about it and just go to the rink and not do any treatments to work on it and feel good," Briere said.
“It’s probably not going to happen this year. I’ll have to wait until next year for that.”
Briere skated by himself on Sunday, which was an off-day for the Flyers. On Monday, he skated between Mike Knuble and Simon Gagne, as a fill-in center for Mike Richards - who missed practice for a "maintenance day," or a day off.
Briere sounded as if he would be ready to go for tonight's contest against Buffalo.
“At this point, I think there is a chance I’ll be playing,” Briere said. “But we’ll wait until the morning to decide. Hopefully there is less bleeding and swelling … when I wake up.”
But Flyers coach John Stevens didn't sound so peppy about Briere's possible return. If I had to guess, Briere won't be back until Thursday -- just a hunch by Stevens' reaction.
“I’m not sure yet,” Stevens said. “I want to talk to [head athletic trainer] Jimmy [McCrossin] and just make sure that when he comes back he is going to stay in the lineup for the full game and moving forward."
