In the heat of football season, die-hard sports fanaticas sometimes get a little crazy with their makeup and hair styles. All logic and knowledge of contrast, accentuation and good taste are tossed out the window in favor of colored glitter, face paint and hues that should never be seen around the face.

It is not difficult to look both sporty and sophisticated representing your favorite team’s colors in makeup. Here are a couple college team looks that put gorgeous back into gameday.

Gator Girl: The key to using both orange and blue around the eyes lies with hue and saturation. Cover the lid with a coral or apricot shade of orange for day, and line the upper lash line with a darker shade of blue (short strokes of eyeliner or eyeshadow work) to accentuate. CoverGirl Eye Enhancers in Golden Sunrise is a shimmery shade of gold/orange that flatters most eye colors. If you really want to go darker, don’t pick a pumpkin orange. The intensity of the shade will wash out the skin and narrow the eyes, making skin appear yellowish and sick. Instead, chose a brown-based orange- almost a bronze- to give eyes a sunset effect. Navy liner compliments this look.

Knight Look: The University of Central Florida look is easier to pull off, because the colors are already typical for the eye area. The difficulty is using the black and gold without making it look like you are performing onstage or attending a formal event. Instead of layering on the black, focus on the gold. A barely there nude with a gold sheen washed over the lid to the brow works as a starting point. Next, a brown-based or nude-based gold, such as CoverGirl Eye Enhancers Golden Sunset worked over the eyelid to the crease provides the perfect color without overdoing the glitz. Next, using an eyeliner brush, use short strokes to apply a matte black shadow along the upper lash line. Finish with several layers of black mascara.

The main guideline for any gameday look is to decide which color can be darkened as the accent color, and which can be lightened for the base. It is important not to use similar saturations of both colors, because the makeup can come off costumish. If you are attending a Jacksonville Jaguars game, use a light aqua or gold for the base, and black to accentuate.

It is easy to stray away from the tacky while still looking spirited. Balance your colors, and you are sure to score a winning look.
