The Colorado Avalanche and their perfect home record were just too much for the Phoenix Coyotes on Wednesday night.
In a game that was a lot closer then the final score indicated, the Coyotes fell to Colorado, 4-1, at the Pepsi Center in Denver.
The Avalanche started off the scoring just 57 seconds into the contest when Milan Hejduk tipped the puck into the net to give his team the early 1-0 lead.
The game then became a defensive contest until Colorado extended their lead to two goals when Marek Svatos scored his third goal of the season at the 6:43 mark of the third period.
A little over three minutes later Phoenix got on the board with Ed Jovanovski’s fifth goal of the season, with assists from Robert Lang and Matthew Lombardi, to cut the Avalanche lead in half.
Colorado sealed the deal though with 43 seconds left when David Jones scored an empty netter to put his team back up 3-1. The Avalanche got another goal 19 seconds later off a Milan Hejduk wrist shot.
NOTES: Peter Mueller was in the lineup after being a healthy scratch in the last two games… Mikkel Boedker played tonight after getting called up from the Coyotes’ AHL affiliate in San Antonio Tuesday.

Final thoughts
Don’t be fooled by the final score, the Coyotes made the Avalanche a little nervous in the final minutes of Wednesday night’s game. This was only the second time this season that Phoenix has lost by three or more goals. Nevertheless, the Coyotes are on a two-game losing streak and have to get things turned around in tomorrow night’s game against the Blackhawks.
