Right now the Phoenix Coyotes are finding ways to win.

Lead by Adrian Aucoin’s overtime winner with 3:03 left, the Coyotes defeated the Detroit Red Wings, 3-2, in impressive fashion in front of a crowd that was shy of 12,000 at Jobing.com Arena on Thursday.

Detroit lead 2-1 with 3:00 left in regulation, and that’s when the tide turned in Phoenix’s favor.

Petr Prucha scored his second goal of the year, off assists from Zbynek Michalek and Martin Hanzal, but the Red Wings argued that the goal should’ve been disallowed due to interference on goaltender Chris Osgood. After the goal was reviewed, it was ruled a good goal.

“I just thought they were pushing the goalie into the net, and to me, I didn’t think that was allowed. I thought that should be blown,” said Red Wings Head Coach Mike Babcock after the game.

The game went into overtime and at the 1:57 mark of the period, Aucoin scored to give the Coyotes the victory.

Tomas Holmstrom and Brett Lebda were the goal scorers for Detroit while Matthew Lombardi also tallied a goal for Phoenix.

Goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov moved to 6-1 on the season by stopping 25 of 27 shots. The Red Wings’ Chris Osgood stopped 30 of 33 shots in the losing effort.

NOTES: The Red Wings had five penalties for 10 minutes, while the Coyotes had six penalties for 12 minutes… The Coyotes scored once on three power play opportunities.

Quote of the game

“Anytime you win an overtime game, especially coming from behind and against a team like that, it’s huge.”- Coyotes defenseman Adrian Aucoin.

Anthony’s three stars

1. Adrian Aucoin (game-winning goal, assist)
2. Petr Prucha (game-tying goal, six shots)
3. Zbynek Michalek (assist, four blocked shots)

Final thoughts

For whatever reason, having the Red Wings in town always seems to bring out the best in the Coyotes fans. They were loud and enthusiastic the whole night. It would surely be nice if all the fans can bring that enthusiasm to every home game.

Up Next: The Coyotes close out their four-game homestand with a game against the Los Angeles Kings. Puck drops at 6:00 p.m. AZ time.
