The next step in the culinary expert adventure: international food critic David Rosengarten and I head out for dinner in the Big Apple. On the way, we check out a local haunt that he says has great fried chicken.

However, we had our hearts set on a fun Mexican bistro-type place http://www.gabrielas.com. They have a cute porch area for eating outdoors, but it was a humid night… so I voted for the indoor AC. We started out with Margaritas, because they contain David’s favorite liquor – tequila! He likes his Margaritas with a salt rim, not sweet, and on the rocks. For contrast, I got a frozen prickly pear Margarita with a sugar rim.
We shared a ceviche Campenchano, with shrimp, octopus, fresh fish, tomatoes, and avocado, because in an ideal world I would have ceviche every day!

The hot sauce added part of the magic.

David recommended the Rotisserie Yucatan chicken with mole poblano and it was perfect. Juicy with a faint orange peel essence, it would really appeal to a wide range of folks.

I asked him what was the most elaborate banquet he had been to, but since he is so frequently invited to palaces to dine with this-or-that Duke, he said that it was about all he could do to recall such a dinner from four days ago!
