When you are shopping in the mall or online, the discount signs mostly stop at 60%, sort of a break-even magic number for most retailers. According to an NPR article, 70% discount is the new deal consumers are looking for. So where can we find 70% off's in Honolulu?
Ala Moana Shopping Center has spring-summer sales mostly from 20% to 40% off. Swarovski is having selected items at 75% off. For the sidewalk sale scheduled during July 24-26 weekend, some retailers are having alluring discounts: Loco Boutique, Hawaiian swimwear shop, 70% off selected items, Sanrio, the Hello Kitty store, 75% off regular prices. Right now, Betsey Johnson and Journeys are offering 70% off and Cache 75% off.
Kahala Mall had the Sidewalk Sales last weekend. Many stores vended discounted items in the hallway. The only 70% off I ran into is Boutique A'propos.
Waikele Outlets are having in-store sales event. The maximum discount is 50%. Well, being outlets, not much lower can they go.
The bi-annual sales event (usually from July till August) in all national chain stores are offering pretty good deals, which usually won't go further than 60%. But you may still bargain for additional discounts. For example, I purchased a blouse from Banana Republic at Ala Moana at 66% off. For a small defect (plus it's the last piece), the store manager endorsed an addiontal 20% from the 55% discount item. 70% off's are not readily available, but we may still find some if we look hard.

Note the "up to" and "for selected items" around the big printed 60% off. There are always limitations behind temptations.
