As if the adoration surrounding Tama the Japanese Stationmaster cat wasn’t enough to prove how popular cats are in Japan, these videos certainly will.

This video proves the disdain that cats have for time, even in their sleep. Goodbye alarm clock—we knew thee well.

While this video is absolutely adorable (who knew that cats could sit on cushions in a way that resembles mafia leaders?), remember that spoiling your pets too much can be dangerous. If you haven’t already, be sure to watch the video about Simon’s Sister’s dog that shows why pet obesity can—and should—be avoided.

After seeing the most recent Star Trek movie, this cat decided to try and communicate with extraterrestrial life. No word if he succeeded, but he sure is cute!

Aside from all the cuteness however, the role that cats play in Japanese culture is very important. Thought to be both lucky and something to be feared, representations of cats (or neko, as they are referred to in Japan) can be found in places such as businesses or homes where owners hope to invite a bit of luck (About.com).
