And you thought that one pound chocolate Easter bunnies were big! Owned by Hans Wagner, Herman—a giant German rabbit—may be the world’s largest rabbit, tipping the scale at over 17 pounds.
While many people have claimed Herman’s existence to be nothing but a myth, infamous truth or myth site Snopes.com deemed the story of Herman to be fact, and respected news outlets such as CBBC and the New York Post have covered Herman in past news stories.
While it’s in German, you can view a video of Herman below. And even if you can’t understand what’s being said, seeing an enormous rabbit lovingly lugged around is always a heartwarming site.
While it’s fun to see rabbits like Herman, keep in mind that if you’re thinking about adopting a rabbit, consider whether or not you can really take care of it. While it might be ‘fun’ or ‘fashionable’ to get a rabbit around Easter time, it’s not ‘fun’ or ‘fashionable’ to get rid of that rabbit a few months down the road.
Tread carefully before you adopt, and be sure to check out this list of local shelters and animal rescue missions that have rabbits available for adoption before you make your way to the pet store.
