It seems that along with popular literature and movies, the ‘goth’ craze has also reached the realm of pets. But unlike the popular characters featured in films and books like Twilight, ‘gothic’ or ‘vampiric’ pets should not be celebrated for their perceived coolness or trendiness. Instead, they should be rescued.

In a recent article by the Associated Press entitled “Pa. pet groomer charged with piercing kittens,” it was revealed that a Pennsylvania “pet groomer” (I use that term lightly) was recently arrested for creating what she called “gothic kittens”—kittens with oversized piercings in their ears, necks, and tails. (See picture above, which was taken from the original listing that advertised the sale of the kittens).

While the “pet groomer” claims that she had only the best of intentions, it is obvious that she was trying to capitalize on a culture currently obsessed with all things goth at the expense of innocent animals. You can watch the full report by clicking on the video below.

If you know of anyone who is currently selling “gothic kittens” take the following steps to make sure that the kittens are safely rescued:

1. Report them to the selling platform. In the case that an individual is selling “gothic kittens” via an online service like eBay or Craigslist, report them to the site administrators.

2. Call the police. In the case that the “gothic kittens” for sale aren’t being sold via an online service like eBay or Craigslist, contact the police. If the police aren’t able to help, go on to step 3.

3. Call PETA or a local animal rescue mission. In the case that the police are unable or unwilling to help, get in contact with people who will help, like PETAor your local animal rescue mission. In the case that the “gothic kittens” for sale are in another state, try calling a nationwide organization like the Humane Society in lieu of a local animal rescue mission.
