Nature in the Wild
We all thought that animal prints, rustic tables, raffia rugs and horn accents wouldn’t last long. Boy we were wrong. The trend continues and has taken a new direction. Furniture and decorative accessories shown at the High Point homefurnishings trade show were chic, yet casual and featured the creative use of natural plant and animal materials.
Reclaimed buffalo horn now adorns photo frames, lamps and bowls. Camel bone is combined with pewter to create picture frames and serving bowls. Bamboo and other sustainable materials, increasingly popular in the construction of tabletop accents, are used as lamp bases and as decorative components of occasional tables. Leather upholstered chairs are framed in rattan. Responsibly harvested teak is used to create tables, planters and mirror frames.
Furniture styles range from very casual to very sophisticated, and from contemporary to traditional, as designers use common and rare materials to create both high end and affordable décor. Fabric patterns illustrate designs and shapes from Africa to Asia and adorn upholstery, lamps and wall décor. Colors are earthly and reflect their natural origins.
