The fall edition of the home décor trade show in High Point, NC is over and several trends were evident in the wholesale furniture and decorative accessory showrooms. The High Point market, also known as the International Homefurnishings Market, is the premier exhibition of home décor to the wholesale industry in the United States. Every major retail organization, and a great number of smaller retail companies, attends this event which is held twice yearly, in April and November. In the home décor industry it’s known simply as High Point – as in “Are you going to High Point?”

At the trade show, home décor buyers, trend setters and interior designers from the world over view the latest in décor trends. Furniture and decorative accessories galore are on display in a multitude of showrooms and exhibition centers. This city is where décor trends for the United States market are made or dismissed. Trends seen now in High Point will be in retail stores as soon as next spring and certainly by next fall.

Contemporary
Sometimes called modern, but not as stark, contemporary furnishings are a reaction to the muddled world around us. They give us a sense of order and are concise in their lines and color. Hues are white, pewter, gray and black. Accessories exhibit geometric lines or smooth curvilinear elements. Manufacturers have taken a page from the color directions of paint manufacturers Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore in the direction of fabrics and finishes in black, white, cream, ands on the gray scale accented with bursts of bright color.
