Himmarshee restaurant in Fort Lauderdale has a nice New Years Eve dinner menu. It will cost you $99 per person, but it includes 4-courses, plus one bottle of wine or champagne per couple. I strongly recommend you make reservations, they will have 7:45 and 10:30 seatings.  I spent New Years at Himmarshee two years ago and the food was really good. Don't expect big portions, it's mostly medium to small size portions served on a very elegant style.

HIMMARSHEE BAR & GRILLE is open for

• Lunch Monday - Friday 11:30am to 2pm
• Dinner Monday -Thursday  5:30 to 10pm               
• Friday - Saturday 5:30 to 11pm
• Sunday Brunch 11am to 3pm
• Sunday Dinner 3pm to 8pm     

After dinner, you can view the ball drop at Downtown Fort Lauderdale; lots of people and partying all over. I don't recommend bringing children; it's mostly an adult environment.

About the ball drop near Himmarshee: The City of Fort Lauderdale invites everyone to one of the Southeast’s largest New Years Celebrations: the annual “Downtown Countdown”!  This free event will take place on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 on SW 4^th Avenue to SW 5^th Avenue.
