The incredibly talented cast of A Very Potter Musical

Now that the sixth film installment has come and gone, Harry Potter fans are left with only one burning question for the entertainment industry: what else have you got?

A Very Potter Musical
I apologize profusely for proposing yet another way to kill time on the internet, but if you face reality you’d realize that YouTube had already consumed a good portion of your life, even before “Kittens Inspired by Kittens.” What I am about to promote, however, is anything but a waste of time. Some might consider it the greatest piece of Harry Potter fandom yet. It’s title: A Very Potter Musical – a full-length original musical parody written and performed by students and recent graduates from the University of Michigan, all Harry Potter fanatics. The show takes on a playful criticism of the series, though any jabs are obviously made out of pure, unadulterated love for the wizarding world. These talented students have a gift for both humor and song, and will have you looking at Potter in ways you never thought possible. In short, it’s computer time well spent.

It's just as good the third time...

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince goes 3D
For those who are temporarily placated by the awesome that is Half-Blood Prince, you can certainly bolster the entertainment industry, and get your fix, with multiple film viewings. However, for those interested in upgrading to the IMAX version for the 3D experience, take from me a bit of information Warner Bros. neglected to share with its eager customers. While the IMAX portion lives up to expectations – as seeing Dumbledore cast a ring of fire that could span a football field makes the hair on your arms stand on end – it’s that technological wonder of three dimensions that falls short. Only the first 12 minutes are even in 3D at all – and that includes the previews. In short, the pieces of plot left to come alive in 3D wonder end before Harry has a chance to leave the Burrow for Hogwarts. Not to mention the lackluster quality of what little special effect action there is in those first minutes at all. An overall review would rate the experience worth it, though you should purchase your ticket expecting an IMAX production, not a three-dimensional one.

The proposed Hogwarts castle

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter
Thanks to the Universal Orlando Resort in Florida, it won’t be long before fans have an unbeatable alternative to staging the Hogwarts castle out of leftover boxes in their living rooms. Sometime during summer 2010, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter will open to the public, giving the world its first-ever Harry Potter theme park. The 20-acre attraction at Universal’s Islands of Adventure will include every landscape devotees could possibly desire: Hogwarts castle, Hogsmeade Village and the Forbidden Forest. In addition to the as-yet mysterious rides that feature cutting-edge technology, the park will feature themed restaurants, finally providing fulfilling the dream of butterbeer at the Three Broomsticks. Pictures from rabid fans are floating around online, but pretty updates are posted to Universal’s site. In addition, the following introductory video aired on Central Florida news this past July 17th – take some visual proof!
