Weekend trips from Miami to Manhattan are easy to plan. And significantly cheaper this year. At least the bad economy creates travel opportunities.
City-bound jet setters can choose from over 20 direct daily flights to New York City from Miami and over 25 direct flight options from Ft. Lauderdale. Currenly, Delta, American, Spirit, and JetBlue are all offering base fares under $200 for nonstop roundtrip tickets.
Visitors receive a free third night at any Signature Collection hotel including the Loews Regency Hotel on Park Avenue or the Jumeirah Essex House on Central Park South. And with base rates of $239 per night for the five-star Waldorf Astoria or $159 per night for the centrally-located Sheraton Manhattan at Times Square, travelers can be selective in choosing their accommodations. Even the Ritz Carlton Central Park is enticing guests with a $200 hotel credit for every three paid nights.
This month features dining deals as well. July 12-31, 2009 marks the 17th annual NYC Restaurant Week. Over 250 of the city's finest eateries, including Spice Market, the Oak Room at the Plaza, and Nobu, are participating in this special event by offering three-course prix-fixe meals for $24.07 at lunch and $35 at dinner. Many participating restaurants also offer free dessert for children or other kid-friendly specials.
To satisfy culture cravings at bargain prices, stop by the TKTS Ticket Booth at the South Street Seaport to purchase significantly reduced tickets to next-day Broadway matinees.
Want an added bonus? Check the weather. Last week, high temperatures only reached the mid-seventies. A nice break from Miami in July.
