Everyone remembers arts and crafts projects from elementary school. Finger painting and color books are some of the things you might remember partaking in and there's a good chance that you created (or if you're like me, attempted) some beautiful origami work.
This Sunday, July 12th, the Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden at Cal State Long Beach is hosting its Origami Festival. The event lasts from 10am-4pm.
From the event's official web site:
Discover why people have been enchanted by the art of origami for hundreds of years when you experience the thrill of creating a three dimensional object from nothing but a single sheet of paper. As one of the most economical art forms, origami is an exciting craft that can be produced from your recycling bin! This summer over forty experts from local and national origami clubs will teach a variety of different types of origami for people of all experience levels to enjoy—join us and join in the fun.
This sounds like a great event to take the family to and it's relatively inexpensive as well. Admission is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors, $5 for members and free for ages 12 years and under.
Location: Cal State University, Long Beach: 1250 Bellflower Blvd., Long Beach, 90840. Click here for specific directions to the Garden. Parking is free from 12noon-4pm in student spaces.
Just for fun, here's a quick video on how to make the cutest little origami bunny:
