Breaking News: "New Moon" rises to an estimated $258.8 million at the global box office

Industry pundits are now reporting that following its Saturday performance, the torrid debut of "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" has risen up to a mammoth $140.7 million for the weekend. While Sunday's estimates are still being tabulated, "New Moon" has delivered the third biggest box office debut in movie history. It takes over the spot earned by "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest," which earned $135.6 million in 2006.
Performing like a summer event film, its overseas results are no less staggering with $118.1 million from 25 territories. All combined, "New Moon" delivered a staggering $258.8 million global opening.
