
Fans of "Glee" fans truly are legion as this edition of Personalities in Brief reveals which TV icon will get to direct an episode "once more with feeling" in 2010.
For a show's success built upon Internet adoration, it makes total sense that TV legend Joss Whedon (pictured below) has been confirmed to direct an episode. Entertainment Weekly, which broke the news in its Ausiello Files this week, fueled instant 'Net excitement with the announcement.
Whedon, currently enjoying a return to television with "Dollhouse," is the influential mind behind "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." The series, which starred Sarah Michelle Gellar, hit a creative peak in in 2001 with a musical episode titled "Once More with Feeling." Originally aired during its sixth season, this all-singing and all-dancing episode of "Buffy" has gone one to become a cult classic, inspiring sing-a-long screenings as recent as last September in Houston, sponsored by the Southwest Alternate Media Project. A self-professed fan of "Glee," Fox approached Whedon to direct one of the additional nine episodes just ordered by the network.
“Joss directed one of the great musical episodes in the history of television on 'Buffy',” Ryan Murphy, executive producer of "Glee," said. “This is a great, if unexpected, fit. I’m thrilled he’ll be loaning us his fantastic groundbreaking talent.”
"Glee" airs Wednesday nights at 9:00pm on Fox.
