Each year Fortune Magazine releases the results of its yearly survey on the Best Companies to Work for in America. The list, which highlights the top 100 companies, measures success by different categories including job growth, low turnover, diversity, work-life balance, telecommuting, pay, and several others. This year’s list included 8 companies with headquarters in and around the DC area.

#21 Arnold & Porter
This law firm, which has its headquarter in Washington, DC, was applauded for having exceptional benefits like 18 weeks paid leave for maternity and adoption. It was also highlighted for being one of the top companies when it came to best pay for its Associate positions.

This auto superstore has its roots in Richmond, VA. It ranked amongst the top 20 companies by size with more than 16,000 employees. It also boasts a very diverse staff.

#52 Booz Allen Hamilton
This private strategy and technology consulting firm is headquartered in McLean, VA. It ranked high for top companies by size with more than 20,000 employees. The companies’ great pay of the Associates and its large population of telecommuting employees also made it one of the best places to work.

#54 Erickson Retirement Communities

#66 Mitre
Mitre is a non-profit research arm of the federal government with headquarters in McLean, VA. It was the only DC area company to make the top of the best place for work-life balance and best place for low turnover with less than 5% of its employees leaving. Maybe making the best pay list also has a little something to do with it.

#78 Marriott International
