When Skate finally took Tony Hawk's crown, it was due to the challenge level and focus on realism the new skateboarding game brought to the concrete, courtesy of developer Black Box. Today, EA has officially announced that Skate 3 is hitting retail May 2010.
"The social and community aspects of the SKATE franchise are something we've always embraced, but we've never done anything to the scale you're going to see in SKATE 3," said Senior Producer, Jason DeLong. "We're giving gamers a very unique experience by providing them with the tools they need to build their ultimate team or to create a team comprised entirely of their online friends. From there, it's all about proving yourself - teaming up, and throwing down."
This time around you'll be killing it in Port Carverton, assembling your own crew to participate in team-based challenges and compete against rival teams. You can also expect Black Box to roll your own user generated content including videos, graphics, and customized skate parks.
While few specifics are known about the heavy emphasis on co-op play for Skate's 2nd sequel, it's somewhat comforting to know that EA is not competing directly with Tony Hawk: RIDE this holiday season. While they could have rushed this out the door to take away some of Activision's thunder, they're hopefully taking the high ground and churning out another innovative Skate game.
