December has finally arrived, and with it, cool, wintry weather (or at least Southern California's version of it). As scruffy beards and Uggs start inescapably popping up around town, now is a great time to discover a new seasonal haunt. Might I suggest the Buena Vista Cigar Club...
Located at 9715 South Santa Monica Blvd (between Linden and Roxbury,) this nicely tucked-away bar features a truly unique decor. A mix between a European ski lodge and a Wild West saloon, the Buena Vista Cigar Club offers its patrons a quiet, comfortable place to do some reading, play cards, enjoy a smoke, or visit with good friends.
Featuring a cobble-stone chimney, worn leather couches, antique rifles, and a few sets of antlers, this multi-level space truly feels like an historic clubhouse. Upstairs, the plaid-upholstered couches and antique lamps provide a spacious and relaxing meeting space for up to three separate parties. Downstairs, the fully-stocked bar and tables are filled with regulars and local professionals cutting loose after work.
And yes, as the name suggests, they also sell cigars, offering dozens of premium options for both the aficionado and casual smoker. For those who don't smoke, the high ceilings and adequate ventilation system do a good job of breaking up any overpowering smell or haze. What's left is a perfect winter lounge, open daily (except sunday) until 2am.
