Located one block NW of arguably the city's biggest intersection (where Wilshire and Santa Monica Blvd cross,) you'll find a startling structure that looks like it wandered off a silent film set. Why? Because it actually did.
Built in Culver City in the early 1920's, the house commonly known by locals as the "Witch's House" was first used as the backdrop for a variety of silent films. By the end of the decade, the house had become all too familiar to tiring movie watchers and was moved to Beverly Hills, where it has remained as a private residence ever since.
With its mixture of sharp angles and gentle curves, tiny, lead-mullioned windows, and an impossibly warped roof, the house looks more suitable for the imagination than for inhabiting, yet it sits next to some of Beverly Hills' grandest homes.
Next time you're in the area, stop by for a look. After you do, be sure to check out some of the other architectural gems and mega-structures in the neighborhood. You might just be amazed by what you find.
