Scott Roeder confessed to the slaying of Dr. George Tiller Monday morning via telephone interview with the Associated Press. Roeder says he plans to argue at his trial that he was justified to shoot and kill Tiller because he was trying to save the lives of unborn children.
"Because of the fact that preborn children's lives were in inimate danger, this was the action I chose... I want to make sure the focus is, of course, obviously on the preborn children and the necessity to defend them." Roeder said. "Defending innocent life- that is what prompted me. It is pretty simple."
Roeder spoke with the AP for over 30-minutes, but never apologized.
"No, I don't have any regrets because I have been told so far at-least four women have changed their minds, that I know of, and have chosen to keep the baby. So even if one woman changed her mind, it would be worth it. No, I don't have any regrets."
Signers of a petition demand that Roeder's jurors must be allowed to consider the question of "when life begins" when deciding Roeder's fate.
If convicted, Roeder could face life in prison. Prosecutors have already said they will NOT pursue the death penalty.
