Someone might want to cut off the caffeine to the Rochester Knighthawks. On the trading block this National Lacrosse League off season, they’ve been busier than the most devoted Starbucks addict.
Tuesday, the Knighthawks shipped Gavin Prout, who they had acquired in a trade on Halloween, and Dean Hill to the Edmonton Rush. In exchange, the Knighthawks received the Rush’s first pick in the 2011 NLL Entry Draft and a conditional second round pick.
Prout, the longtime captain of the Colorado Mammoth, was the key cog in the Halloween day mega-trade that provided the Mammoth with Ilja Gajic, a former Denver University team member and Colorado local. Gajic had been the second overall pick in September’s draft.
“We wanted to get four picks for Ilija and now we got them,” explained Knighthawks general manager Curt Styres when announcing Tuesday’s trade on the Knighthawks’ website. Rochester had originally received two picks from the Mammoth in addition to Prout and Andrew Potter.
For Prout, the move sends him back west. He told NLL Insider that he was excited to contribute to the Rush, given their significant player movements in the past few months. “I do know that their coaching staff is great and that the addition of new players will improve the team from last year.” said Prout.
Hill had been acquired by Rochester in a February trade with the Minnesota Swarm. He led the Swarm in goals in 2007 with 32. He only appeared in seven game each of the last two seasons, but Edmonton was excited to add him to their roster, where he will be united with the Swarm’s other two 2007 top scorers, Andy Secore and Ryan Ward.“I’m thrilled that Dean is part of this trade. Two years ago Minnesota had one of the top-scoring teams in the league and we now have the three main sources of that offense in Hill, Secore and Ward,” said Rush general manager and head coach Derek Keenan on Tuesday.
