5 tips to help you stay on track during Thanksgiving
Sticking to your goals can be difficult during the holidays. However the tips below will help you enjoy Thanksgiving without losing track of your fitness goals.
- Decide on your tradeoffs – Having a goal to get fit or lose weight may mean that you can’t have everything on the Thanksgiving menu. Decide on the dish that you want most and have it. In turn, eliminate something else that you can live without.
- Eat mindfully – instead of piling your plate with second and third helpings, slow down and be aware of what you are eating and how you feel. Enjoy each bite and revel in the blessings of a wonderful meal. However, when you are full, stop eating.
- Get up from the table when you are done – it is difficult to reach for more food when you are no longer at the table. If you continue to sit after you are full, you may not be able to resist the urge to reach for seconds.
- Sip on water between bites – sipping on water will slow down your chewing and make you feel fuller sooner.
- Bring a healthier option – at least if you are unable to control yourself, you know that it could be worse. (read about a healthy sweet potato recipe)
- Thanksgiving is one day – if you think you will indulge on Thanksgiving Day, stick to your eating and exercise plans during the rest of the week and get back on track the following day.
The bottom-line is that Thanksgiving is about being with those you love and appreciate. Don’t become so bogged down with your diet that you miss out on having a good time.
