The Commonwealth Shakespeare Company (CSC) will be presenting the Bard’s classic The Comedy of Errors, premiering July 31 at the Parkman Bandstand on Boston Common. Presented in affiliation with Mayor Thomas Menino and the City of Boston, the CSC production continues the long-standing tradition of providing Bostonians with free, top-notch summer theater.
One of William Shakespeare’s earliest plays, The Comedy of Errors is a raucous story of slapstick, pratfalls, and mistaken identity. Antipholous of Syracuse and his servant, Dromio of Syracuse, unknowingly show up on the doorstep of Antiphilous of Ephesus and Dromio of Ephesus. The two sets of twins, it seems, were separated at birth and are reunited in this hilarious farce full of madcap antics, near-misses, and zany dialogue. The Comedy of Errors has long been considered one of Shakespeare’s silliest—and most enjoyable—plays.
The CSC cast includes Remo Airaldi as Dromio of Ephesus, Larry Coen as Dromio of Syracuse, Josh Stamwell as Antipholous of Ephesus, and Dan Roach as Antipholous of Syracuse. The production is directed by Commonwealth Shakespeare Founding Artistic Director Steven Maler.
The Comedy of Errors marks the 14th production of Shakespeare on the Common. It runs July 31-August 16. Be sure to show up early to get a seat; primo spots start filling up two or three hours before the show.
