A tasty Green Bistro, just down the street.

Have you been to the Cheetah yet?

If not, you are missing out on a world of goodness. The Electric Cheetah is a hip new dining option in the Wealthy Street Neighborhood of Grand Rapids. The Cheetah is a local, independently owned 'green' bistro - does it get any better than that?

While the name may seem a bit out of the ordinary, the food is truly extraordinary. This full-service bistro serves up organic, local menu options, with the touch of mom as each meal is prepped from scratch and made with passion. Some of the intriguing dishes include hand-cut fries made from Michigan Russet potatoes, an array of sandwiches including the grilled portabello mushroom, and for dessert? Warm, gooey cookies directly from the oven and served with a glass of milk.

Hungry yet?

On top of serving a deliciously unique menu, Cory Demint, the creator of Wealthy Streets most recent addition, strives to serve food that is locally sourced, organic and void of the greasy, commonplace items served elsewhere. In Cory's own words, "the typical garbage that goes on in restaurants (elsewhere,) will not fly with us". Instead the Cheetah crew opts for nutrient rich salads overflowing with color, unique sandwiches such as the 'East Coast Pulled Pork' or 'Sloppy Jalopy', and homemade pies baked with love. The pies deserve a bit of extra attention as each crust is prepared from Cory's mother, Phyllis' own recipe and paired up with all natural ingredients to make succulent scratch-cooked pies - made fresh daily.

One of the great local features found on the menu is the grass-fed beef locally raised on Creswick Farms in Ravenna, Michigan. By freeing the cows to dine on green pastures, Creswick Farms is not only producing a low(er)-carbon option than factory farmed feedlot meat, the beef also becomes a healthier product. Grass-fed beef has less total fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, and calories. It also has more vitamin E, beta-carotene, vitamin C, and a number of heart-healthy fats, including omega-3 fatty acids.

As for the 'green' qualities at the Cheetah, the owner has gone above and beyond simply sourcing local food in order to share his zeal for the environment. Everything in the restaurant has been re-purposed, used or donated. The bathroom has been decorated with community pieced puzzles, all of the red candle votives have been donated and the seating was purchased from a previous locale. To top it off, employees are encouraged to reduce their own carbon footprint by walking, biking or scootering into work - certainly a key quality for delivery employees as meals are brought to your door by a 'Cheetah' bike!

So, the next time you are in the neighborhood, be sure to take a detour right into Wealthy Street's own touch of 'Green Rapids' in one electrifying bistro. And don't forget to stick around long enough for one (or two) of the homemade cookies, hot from the oven and straight to your plate.
