Saturday night, October 24, UFC officials let out arguably the biggest travesty of scoring in Mixed Martial Arts history. Wrestling was real until two men decided to fix a bout and for the next 50 years, people protected that secret. Boxing is still real, but horrible decisions regularly have people questioning whether and how many fights outcomes are pre-determined. While I've asked this before after Forest Griffin vs. Anderson Silva at UFC 101, now, a mere 3-shows later, it seems it's time to begin questioning UFC seriously as well.

Lyoto Machida, the heavily favored light heavyweight champion took on Mauricio "Shogun" Rua in a five round title fight. During this fight, Machida got flat out beat. Of the five rounds, only one, the third, was even seriously debatable to going to Machida. He's an undefeated champion who has beaten huge name Rashad Evans to a great buy-rate and the UFC clearly wants to protect him, but this is absurd. A man cannot clearly lose 4 or 5 rounds and likely have lost that fifth, then win the fight by decision. It's simply not possible. To quote a certain famous dramatist: "Something is rotten in the state of Denmark." So, with this, so soon after UFC 101, Dana White, the UFC owner, has opened himself up for massive questioning and investigating. Wrestling, long believed real, suffered the same fate and became pure entertainment. Is that the fate of the UFC and MMA in general? These are highly trained, real fighters with extensive lists of credentials. Could they really be letting this happen? Or is this backroom maneuvering of the type Don King excels, where things get worse, but those within the business hide behind the fact that the athletes have these credentials and qualifications. Time will tell, but the sport of mixed martial arts received a serious black eye that will need explaining.

Dana White meet Vince McMahon. Don't do what he did.
