The death of Michael Jackson has become a federal issue.
That's according to the Drug Enforcement Administration this morning, which has been asked to help authorities sift through the King of Pop's prescription dug use and doctor's care.
If allegations are true that Jackson abused painkillers or was mistreated by his handlers in any way, the DEA wants to get to the bottom of the matter quickly.
According to the AP report, the Feds can help investigators better understand drug abuse relating to everything from prescription abuse to possible physician malpractice.
The lingering probes into Jackson's death continue to offset plans for a memorial service for the late pop star.
So far, eyes continue to find direction toward Gary, Indiana as the location for an official memorial and burial. Yesterday, Jackson fans learned that Jackson's former residence at Neverland ranch could not be used to accommodate a Michael Jackson memorial.
UPDATE
MSNBC is reporting that MJ's memorial service will be held at the downtown Staples center. It will be open to the public starting at 10:00 am.
